Waterdome is an audiovisual creation for planetariums that was produced for Augsburgs' media art festival Lab30. The 15-minute full-dome show is presented at the Planetarium of Augsburg.
In various abstract images and sounds, the theme of water is presented – not only its different colors and fascinating shapes, but also all its movement. Augsburg's historical water management can be found as well as the current general situation on our planet.
One of the 3D-animated scenes
With no previous experience in projection technology, the team of nine students from Augsburg University of Applied Sciences was responsible for the entire creative process, the conceptual and visual design and technical implementation. Students from the University of the Arts in Berlin cooperated and supported the musical background.
The result — a fulldome production
In contrast to regular video productions, images for a full-dome projection have to be shown square and distorted for the dome. The technical process turned out to be more difficult than expected. Below you can see the original film in lower resolution but in its distorted and round representation. Obviously there is no comparison to the experience in a ten meter dome.
