Plastic is both: a curse and a blessing. On one side we owe it many accomplishments, inventions and creative ideas, on the other side it is a catastrophe for environment and health. In order to bring this paradoxical topic to everyone's attention, it is necessary to present the most important facts and scientific work on plastics in a neutral and illustrative way.
To allow the user a different perspective on the controversial material, not only popular opinions of environmental organizations should be included, other relevant areas should also be considered. On one hand the importance of plastic in product design and on the other hand the impact on society.

Therefore the idea was to tell the history of plastic in an interactive journey. For this purpose, I developed a concept for a microsite that combines traditional aspects of books with the advantages of digital media.
The microsite concept, which leads the user step by step through the historical story, playfully combines audiovisual animations, interactions and textual information in the typical style of digital storytelling. The possibilities for interaction constantly encourage the user to explore the history. The responsive and clear interface design enables an easy navigation through the chapters.
3D scenes of the second chapter
The digital storyline is divided into five chapters – just like a classical drama. Each chapter is again divided into a main chapter and subchapters.
THE ADC JURY SAYS
"A sensational website with a lot of love for design, 3D, interaction and storytelling in every detail. A great case that shows the whole industry where we are heading when it comes to website design."
Based on the finalized concept, the information, image and sound level were combined and synchronized accordingly. The compositing improves the feeling for the layout in motion, the sound effects, the transitions between chapters and the general animation sequence. You can view the result below.
